There are any number of exciting things to get involved in Milan. The city has an incredibly rich cultural and religious history and there is no shortage of sightseeing to be done: the Duomo, the Castello Sforzesco, the Navigli, Brera, to name but a few. Free time activities and night life are well catered for. Football fans will be able to see matches at the San Siro Stadium while opera buffs will be able to experience the magnificent acoustics of La Scala Opera House. Or maybe you would appreciate the restaurants, bars and night clubs to be found in various areas of the city.

Travelling at the weekend to see other areas is easy to do because of the convenient transport links with other cities such as Genoa, Venice, Turin and Verona. The Alps are a couple of hours away, while Lake Como is close enough for a day trip. Hiking in the Cinque Terre would make a wonderful weekend trip while if you want a beach trip, both the Adriatic Sea and the Liguria coast are within easy reach.
